Kansas State University Libraries Student Intern - Beloit Sports Complex Plan in United States

About This Role:

The project will revolve around redesigning, updating and enhancing the City of Beloit Sports Complex. Currently this facility contains 6 baseball/softball fields, several bathroom facilities, two soccer fields, and other green spaces. The facility is in need of a more cohesive long term plan to upgrade current fields; add 2 – 3 additional fields, a centralized concession/bathroom/pavilion facility, parking and walking trails. There is existing infrastructure and green space to with work. The project will require community and stakeholder engagement in order to fully vet potential issues. The project will enhance the community to meet the growing demand of sport and provide a modern and up to date sports complex.

Internship Dates:

May 28, 2019 thru August 2, 2019 or as negotiated with K-State Research

Duties/ Responsibilities:

  • Research sports park designs.
  • Lead key stakeholder and community meetings to determine the needs and develop solutions.
  • Create design renderings for the park facility based on stakeholder and community input.
  • Host public meetings to share designs and gather further input.
  • Present updates to Beloit City Council and Sports Complex Committee.
  • Develop a cost estimate along with phased plan for building and upgrading the facility.
  • Community service or volunteering with a community organization is highly encouraged. This would be outside of the designated scope of work and working hours.
  • Participate in any professional staff development that may be available.
  • Complete other responsibilities as assigned by mentoring supervisors

What You'll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Completion of at least six university semesters at any college or university.
  • Students enrolled in architecture, regional and community planning or interior design are encouraged to apply.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with individuals, groups, and through mass media and social media.
  • Self-motivation and ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Experience working with individuals, groups, and co-workers to accomplish individual and/or group goals, as evidenced by previous leadership roles.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Students from NW Kansas are preferred.

Other Requirements:

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment
  • This position may require travel connected with official duties, including attendance at evening meetings, participation in out of county events, access to a personal vehicle, and a valid driver’s license. The intern is to provide their own computer with the necessary software to develop design renderings

Salary & Benefits:

$20.00 per hour. 40 hours per week. Maximum 400 hours

Housing will be provided through the City of Beloit
