About This Role:

Mitchell County Community Development, Beloit Area Chamber of Commerce and Mitchell County Tourism are working together to create the Mitchell County Marketing and Branding Project. The goal is to make the community memorable by having a recognizable brand which will help the community standout thus attracting new residents, entice prospective businesses and create a sense of pride with its residents.

Internship Dates:

May 28, 2019 thru August 2, 2019 or as negotiated with K-State Research and Extension


Beloit, KS.

Duties/ Responsibilities:

  • Define Mitchell County by identifying its assets, particularly its unusual assets
  • Host listening sessions to learn about the area and its residents
  • Engage residents to help co-create a brand for the region
  • Develop a marketing plan for the brand which can be used in each of the communities
  • Develop billboards and welcome/entrance signs for each of the communities centered around the brand
  • Create a system of wayfinding signage for Beloit and surrounding communities
  • Use social media to create interest in the branding and marketing project
  • Community service or volunteering with a community organization is highly encouraged
  • Complete other responsibilities as assigned by mentoring supervisors

What You'll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Completion of at least six university semesters at any college or university.
  • Students enrolled in communication studies, marketing, graphic design, business, technology or community planning are encouraged to apply.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with individuals, groups, and through mass media and social media.
  • Self-motivation and ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Able to work on multiple projects.
  • Experience working with individuals, groups, and co-workers to accomplish individual and/or group goals, as evidenced by previous leadership roles.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Students from NW Kansas are preferred.

Other Requirements:

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment
  • This position includes attendance at evening meetings; therefore access to a personal vehicle with car insurance, and a valid driver’s license upon employment is required. A personal computer with design software would be a plus.

Salary & Benefits:

$20.00 per hour. 40 hours per week. Maximum 400 hours

Solomon Valley Economic Development, Mitchell County Tourism and the Beloit Area Chamber of Commerce will secure and cover the cost of housing.
