JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE

n

The Technology & Innovation (T&I) engineer within Materion's Performance Alloys & Composites (PAC) business will conduct and support projects that develop new products and processes. This support will include both the technical and operational aspects of product and process development using Lean Sigma methodologies.

n

The incumbent must be able to operate both individually and in teams and will support new product and process launches. The individual will be responsible to support Materion's Operations, Sales, and Marketing teams; in addition, some customer support may be required.

n

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

n

n

n

+ Comply with and support all EH&S activities while operating in a safe, honest and ethical manner

n

+ Support innovation funnel project activities and gate activities relating to NPPD development activities

n

+ Help identify both potential projects for cost savings and new product opportunities

n

+ Provide support to internal and external customers

n

+ Report on the progress and status of activities

n

+ Support other projects as required in accordance with T&I Group standards

n

+ Develop an operational understanding of the company and our products

n

+ Provide the T&L lab supervisor with appropriate technical support

n

+ Support cost analysis for new products

n

+ Run projects according to the Lean Sigma (LS) methodology

n

+ Keep current in their field(s) of expertise and achieve LS Green Belt certification

n

+ Operate under supervision while providing some supervision/support for technicians

n

+ Monitor and measure focus and keep within established goals and objectives

n

+ Conduct customer visits as needed

n

+ Support the evaluation of new equipment and processes

n

+ Work to protect and document IP

n

+ Performs duties as assigned by the Innovation Pipeline Manager


n

Travel Requirements:

+ Up to 15% travel may be required based on business need

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

n

nBasic Qualifications:

n< l>n

+ Undergraduate degree in materials science field (e.g. Metallurgy, Ceramics or Materials Science)

n

+ 3 years of professional technical experience, which may include internships and co-ops

n

+ Demonstrated ability to successfully participate on technical and/or design projects and teams

n

+ Good written and presentation skills

n

+ Comfortable using basic computer programs, including Microsoft 360 and Outlook


n



n

Preferred Qualifications:

n

n

+ Advanced technical degree

n

+ 5 years' experience participating in engineering and product development projects

n

+ n

Experience including experimental design, data acquisition, process control, metalworking, casting, welding and machining


n

+ Proven product or process development skills

n

+ Experience with designing and fabricating composite ceramic structures
