Position Overview

Help Autodesk and its customers understand what the Future of Work will look like. Working with the Corporate Strategy team, you ll build speculative narratives, helping us explore potential futures by making them relatable and tangible.

The mission of Autodesk Research is to deliver strategic foresight to the future of Autodesk s business through exploration and experimentation, and to provide tangible validations that showcase risks and opportunities. A key element in these explorations is how we tell stories about the future in order to make them come true. We use story first as conjecture, to help define the path for our research efforts, which are often undertaken in partnership with customers who share a desire to explore similar territory. As projects are completed, the role of story flips from explore to explain. The Corporate Strategy team sits within Autodesk Research in order to capitalize on the symbiotic relationship between strategy, science, and stories.

The purpose of the Future of Work initiative is to explore how

automation will shape the future landscape of our customer s

jobs, industries, and the nature of their work. The purpose of

this ongoing project is to ensure our nascent perspective on the

Future of Work is made as relatable and tangible as possible, so

that we help our customers understand how humans and machines

can partner to achieve more than either could alone.


  • Engage with thought leaders inside and outside of Autodesk to understand the issues that shape the landscape of our customer s industries

  • Actively perform research to inform Autodesk s understanding of the current and predicted impacts of automation, policy, technology and socioeconomic trends

  • Synthesize these diverse inputs into the construction of a frameworks for understanding the impact of automation on the evolution of industry-valued skillsets, technology innovations and prosperity zones

  • Formulate visual and editorial concepts, as well as work collaboratively with teams across the company to develop a unified framework for positioning Autodesk in the Future of Work

  • Participate with the Corporate Strategy team in forming and communicating a strategic point of view for Autodesk

Minimum Qualifications

  • Full-time student pursuing a Masters or Doctorate in Design, Economics, Media Studies, Sociology, Political Science, or another related discipline degree at an accredited program in the United States with at least one academic term to complete post internship to be eligible for internship participation

  • Proven capability developing speculative narratives

  • Insatiable curiosity and an understanding of how asking questions is key to igniting ideas

  • Work that validates an understanding of the global drivers of change and their implications

  • Self-confidence and strong influencing skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong visual storytelling and presentation skills examples that validates these skills

  • Proven ability to work with executive level leaders

  • Global knowledge of current events, politics, economic and industry trends

Internships @ Autodesk

Our summer internship program runs for ten to twelve weeks from JuneAugust 2019. We start interviewing in January and continue to on a rolling basis. We accept online applications through March but prioritize early submissions. Each internship project is assigned to a university recruiter who will review your qualifications. You may be considered for other roles that you didn t directly apply for.

Our Autodesk interns have the opportunity to work alongside peers from universities all over the country and participate in location-based intern events such as tech talks, design nights, mentoring, networking with leadership, baseball games, bowling, amusement parks and more.
