The successful candidate will support the Office of Mayor Ben McAdams in Salt Lake County's work with community outreach and engagement. The internship is specifically designed for candidates with a strong interest in government and political affairs and presents an unrivaled opportunity to learn about constituent relations and community partnerships. The internship with the Salt Lake County government will focus primarily on supporting the members of the Mayor's office and Community Engagement and Outreach team with a variety of projects and administrative goals. In addition to the county-level work, the internship will also expose interns to state and federal work. A mentor will be assigned to guide and assist the intern's development and growth.
The position is an unpaid internship with a stipend reward upon completion. It entails 15-20 hours per week, Monday through Friday and possibly some weekends, with flexible hours to accommodate a school schedule.
Candidates should be self-motivated. Students with a focus in Communications, Social Sciences, Political Science, Behavioral Science, or Humanities are preferred; but all applicants are welcome. Preferred candidates will have completed junior level status in a Bachelor degree program, OR be enrolled in a graduate degree program. Student will need to receive class credit for this position.
Excellent writing and communication skills. Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Web and technical communications experience a plus.
