Carolina Sunrock is seeking an Environmental Intern to join our Compliance team. The intern will be a key contributor and will gain valuable hands on experience while applying academic concepts to real world business challenges. Normal work hours are Monday – Friday 8:00am-5:00pm, however flexibility can be built in for the right candidate.
The Environmental Intern will provide multi-media environmental support to the Compliance Department and will assist in ensuring plant and jobsite compliance in relation to EPA related federal, state and location Environment, Health and Safety (EH&S) regulations and applicable company policies.
The intern may assist in the following duties.
Provides in the field and administrative environmental assistance as directed by the compliance department.
Participate in project related, technical, and engineering tasks.
Prepare permit applications or review compliance with environmental permits.
Prepare air quality emissions inventories, and storm water/waste water reports.
Assist with conducting and documenting environmental multi-media compliance audits.
Assist with contractor management of cleanup of environmental issues around plants and jobsites.
Assist with evaluating projects for conformance with environmental regulations. This may include assisting with environmental assessments, alternative analysis, and permitting.
Assist with survey projects and environmental sampling activities.
Assist with creation of designs, calculations, diagrams, schematic drawings. Uses computer software as a tool for solving basic engineering problems.
Assist with managing contractors and consultants as needed.
Knowledge of waste water (industrial and storm) controls, air emissions, and pollution control types, solid waste, and recycling methods.
Preparation of SPCC plans.
Assist with creating and facilitating environmental trainings for all employees.
Promote and participate in environmental quality programs to ensure environmental responsibility is met across the board.
Seeks ways to go beyond compliance to environmental regulations and to reduce company cost associated with the environment.

Individual must have obtained or pursuing a Bachelors or Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science or related field required. Previous internship experience preferred. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Must have willingness to take initiative and understand the business.
Must possess good communication, interpersonal skills, time management and organization skills.
Intermediate personal computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, Trimble Software, and Business Objects preferred.
Ability to Prioritizes and handle multiple task and assignments simultaneously.
Interest in working in construction materials industry. Individual will be exposed to various outdoor weather conditions.
Valid North Carolina Driver License Required.
