Job Summary

The University of Pittsburgh’s Swanson School of Engineering Graduate and Online Programs Recruiting Team seeks an intern that will contribute to best in class customer experience specifically by providing relevant meaningful content for SSoE digital & print marketing collateral. This position requires a curious and dynamic individual with the ability to flourish in a fast-paced environment. A strong background in writing and content generation is preferred along with a candidate who is experienced in event planning/coordination. The intern hired for this position will be instrumental in maintaining our website and will be trained on our Content Management System (CMS) – Ektron in addition to print/digital content generation and recruitment event support.

A successful intern for this position will need strong critical thinking and communication skills as well as the ability to work independently in order to integrate into our vibrant and passionate team. Responsibilities – 50% Recruitment Support, 50% Marketing Projects • Provide recruitment support – Assist with the organization and shipment of materials for recruitment events including inventory management • Event Management (internal and external) • Distribution and delivery of marketing materials • Support new recruitment technologies to target prospective students (webinars…) • Infographic and PowerPoint projects as assigned – experience with Canvas a plus • Project manage content updates to Graduate School website – specifically: • Collaborate with Marketing Team’s Web Designer to learn CMS & to eventually make edits and updates to the website via Ektron. Basic HTML understanding a plus. • Collaborate with Graduate Recruiter to incorporate the school’s social content strategy and calendar for each of our major social channels on the website (Prospective Panther Calendar) • Website and social media optimization including analytics and keyword analysis (SEO) • Assist with print-collateral generation, blog posts, email campaign content, and digital web content • Edit existing content • Track projects and provide updates on both digital and print work • Competitive analysis of both marketing strategy and creative assets generated by our competitors – make recommendations for changes to our strategy and campaigns (i.e., social contests, content, etc.) • Data Projects & Analysis – Application Tracking • Assist Graduate Recruiter with other marketing-related research and projects as needed

Job Requirements

Students applying for this internship should be an undergraduate Marketing, Advertising, Business, or Communications major OR have a strong writing background as demonstrated from past extracurricular or internships with a passion for content development and a desire to leverage their writing and organizational skills. Ability to prioritize effectively and solve problems in real-time is vital as this is a customer-facing role. Desire to learn and apply knowledge to marketing content is essential.

Applicants must provide links to social networking profiles as well as one writing sample. Qualified candidates must possess skills in writing, presentation, interpersonal relationships, and customer management. Exceptional communication skills are a must.

Child Protection Clearances

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.

An ideal candidate for this position will begin in May 2018. Summer 2018 work hours are 37.5/week. Fall 2018 & Spring 2019 hours are 20/week. Nights may be required in some instances, as content acquisition at specific events will be made priority. The ideal candidate will commit to a full year (Summer 2018-May 2019) internship with the option to extend based on performance.

It is expected that the intern will be available to work out of Benedum Hall (3700 O’Hara Street Pittsburgh, PA) at least 4 days per week during the internship period and/or as identified by supervisor.
