Job Summary

Startable helps make entrepreneurship more accessible to young people who may never have thought of starting a business. The program teaches maker skills, entrepreneurial skills and important life skills that help put young adults on a path to success while opening their eyes to a host of new career options. Responsibilities and Duties

Startable

  • Develop the Startable program strategy in collaboration with the Program Manager, AlphaLab Gear based on available assets, partners and priorities

  • Develop Startable program maker and entrepreneurship curriculum

  • Implement program, focusing on creating a pipeline of students into IW programs and portfolio companies

  • Manage program timelines, supply acquisition, and contracts

  • Manage relationships and contracts with community partners

  • Pursue new strategic partnerships with partners and vendors

  • Direct recruitment strategies to drive student participation

  • Recruit and engage consultants to serve as Instructors and Mentors

  • Manage all program partners, instructors, speakers and staff

  • Act as point of contact for all Startablerelated matters, including press, outreach, etc.

  • Maintain all Startable marketing assets, such as website, social media, etc.

  • Act as public face of Startable, representing the program and IW to various stakeholders

  • Direct Startable students to internships, accelerators and other IW and partner org opportunities

  • Continue to engage and provide resources for both recent and past program alumni

Startable Year-Round Pipeline Programming

  • Design and implement programming modeled after 2017’s National Robotics Week programming that engages younger students in entrepreneurship, technology and the AlphaLab Gear space as a means of creating a pipeline of students into the Startable program

  • Engage with participating students on a regular basis throughout the year through formal programming

Qualifications and Skills

Other Youth Programming

  • Direct initiatives to expand replicable Startable programing in southwestern PA

AlphaLab Gear Shop

  • Manage AlphaLab Gear shop including maintaining physical space and all equipment

  • Create working documentation and safely training for all shop tools

  • Actively engage AlphaLab Gear cohorts in the shop trainings

  • Maintain reservation schedule for equipment in instances of high demand

  • Advise ALG companies on processes and equipment usage in order to fulfill company product development needs

AlphaLab Gear Resource

  • Provide manufacturing and prototyping resources knowledge base

  • Minimum three years experience

Qualifications

  • Client Relationship management

  • Education/teaching experience, including with underserved students

  • Program coordination experience

  • Project management experience

  • Technical writing experience

  • Marketing, graphic design for print and web, and web design

  • Maker/tool and Fabrication knowledge and expertise

  • Experience creating and maintaining inventory systems

  • Experience working in or managing a shop or similar environment

  • Entrepreneurship/startup experience
