The CUNY Graduate School of Journalism is the only publicly supported graduate journalism school in the Northeast. Opened in September 2006, the school offers three Master of Arts degrees. The Master of Arts in Journalism is a 16-month program with a unique paid summer internship, the Master of Arts in Entrepreneurial Journalism follows the regular curriculum with an extra semester focusing on innovation in the news business, and the 16-month Master of Arts in Social Journalism recasts the profession as a service to engage communities.

The school also features an Master of Arts in Journalism with a unique Spanish-language component and a 15-week Advanced Certificate in Entrepreneurial Journalism for working journalists and media professionals.

Students are taught by veteran reporters and editors and learn by doing in the media capital of the world. The required paid summer internship gives Master of Arts in Journalism students a head start when they look for jobs.

The CUNY Graduate School of Journalism is seeking an Administrative Coordinator. Reporting to the Director of Student Affairs and indirectly to the Director of Career Services, the Administrative Coordinator will provide students with the services of these offices, which includes scheduling and handling logistics for events for both offices, handling appointment requests, and processing paperwork for student internships and other programs.

Including the duties in the CUNY Title Overview, other duties include but are not limited to:

  • Maintains student records, including course evaluations and internship reports.

  • Assists with events, including career fairs, open houses and commencement.

  • Utilizes computer databases and Google spreadsheets to log student coaching notes, update employer contacts and track employment status of recent graduates.

  • Creates Career Services student files for incoming classes.

  • Researches and vets new employers or websites.

  • Promotes and maintains social media presence around events, including creating flyers.

  • Reviews Career Services and Student Services website pages to update as needed.

  • Assists in preparing diplomas for distribution.

  • Performs related duties assigned.


Bachelor's Degree required.

A preferred candidate should have:

  • One to two years of full-time work experience.

  • Experience working in a higher education institution.

  • Experience working with databases and Google spreadsheets.

  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to work evening and weekends.


Supports projects, initiatives, and activities that impact an academic or administrative department.

  • Manages basic office functions such as communications, meeting schedules, work plans, staff assignments, and distributing information.

  • Collects data for, prepares, and distributes reports and presentations using word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software.

  • Updates office databases, lists, and files to ensure completeness and accuracy; maintains current information on department web site(s); maintains department archives and collections.

  • Conducts internet and/or database research and performs basic systems queries to locate information related to department activities.

  • Maintains department fiscal plans and budgets; assists in budget administration and invoice processing.

  • Provides basic information, instructions, and materials as requested by students, faculty, and others who contact the department.

  • May supervise office staff and student workers.

  • Performs related duties as assigned.
