JOB SUMMARY: This position is a key technical resource in the new fabric selection process and will work closely with La-Z-Boy Merchandising, manufacturing, and Innovation organizations along with cover vendors. This person will guide the new selections through the Market process (material review through product launch) from initial selection, testing, pre-production part approval process (PPAP), and initial internal manufacturing. This position is also responsible for the execution of the acceptable quality limits (AQL) process for La-Z-Boy vendor partners and resolving root causes of quality issues that come from manufacturing and warranty. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Monitors cover testing results from both internal and third party testing provides and provides technical guidance to partner suppliers when improved test results are needed.
Works closely with Innovation and upholstery plants during testing and initial builds of product with all new covers and provides feedback to necessary stakeholders.
Provides technical guidance on cover quality issues from manufacturing plants and supply centers to help correct and prevent issues.
Performs AQL audits at domestic cover suppliers to ensure the highest quality covers are shipped to La-Z-Boy supply centers.
Develops, in cooperation with Innovation, suppliers, and third party testing providers, new cover tests to aid in detecting potential warranty and manufacturing issues.
Provides technical leadership and support for changes to La-Z-Boy test standards and manufacturing requirements.
Evaluates new cover selections and provides guidance to suppliers on technical improvements to new covers, ensuring covers will pass testing and provide years of worry free service to La-Z-Boy customers.
Performs PPAP's on new cover selections and sends these out to suppliers, auditors, and internal supply centers to set visual acceptability of characteristics and flaws for all covers.
SCOPE & IMPACT: This position is responsible to provide technical guidance and support to the cover procurement group which is a $135 million annual spend for La-Z-Boy Residential. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in Textile Engineering or Textile Technology or related field with 4-6 years of relevant experience or equivalent.
Understanding of weaving dying, and finishing of textiles.
Knowledge of AQL methodology.
Knowledge of color management and an average discrimination score on Fransworth-Munsell hue test.
Good communication skills, both oral and written.
Strong decision making abilities considering overall strategy and implications.
Up to 20% travel.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS: Understanding of upholstery textiles. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:Subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions. Nearly continuously required to hear and listen and often required to sit, talk, and lift up to 10 pounds. Seldom required to use repetitive hand motion (such as typing), stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb stairs, kneel, squat, and lift up to 40 pounds.
