Job Description

JOB SUMMARY: Manage all aspects of Sales/Use Tax and Property Tax reporting, planning, and systems. Includes coordinating and overseeing governmental audits, training company personnel, maintaining and monitoring of systems, tax planning, and advising on the sales/use tax impact of business transactions.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:• Manage U.S. sales & use tax and Canadian GST, HST and PST compliance process, including reviewing the work of other staff members.• Monitor and maintain indirect tax policy, including field-training company personnel on current sales & use tax laws. Keeping abreast of law changes so as to disseminate information timely.• Maintain IT systems, Taxware for E-Commerce, and Vertex for current taxability and tax rates, monitor updates, upgrades, testing, and system maintenance.• Oversee property tax compliance, including coordination with any outside service providers.• Facilitate audits conducted by various government agencies.• Perform accounting review of key tax related income and balance sheet accounts, including accruals for accounts such as property taxes, sales & use, and other taxes.• Analyze the indirect tax implications of potential business acquisitions, disposals, corporate reorganizations and other projects.SCOPE & IMPACT: The results derived by this person may have a direct impact to the financial statements as it relates to indirect taxes. Works with business leaders to ensure the accurate and complete reporting of indirect taxes; including U.S. sales & use taxes, foreign sales taxes, property taxes, and other non-income taxes. This person may have budget responsibility for property taxes and other non-income taxes. Position oversees multiple tax functions and may have a direct impact to the financial statements. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, with 6-8 years of related experience or equivalent.• 1-3 years supervisory/leadership experience.• Proficient using Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Access.• Proficient in the use of accounting systems, tax compliance systems, and tax research services. • Up to 5% Travel.PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS: • C.P.A.• Thorough knowledge of state sales/use tax law and regulations.
