The Cinema Studies major is a comprehensive liberal arts degree that cultivates an appreciation of the arts, an ability to communicate ideas using a broad array of media, and an understanding of how various cultures tell their stories. Cinema Studies is a multidisciplinary major spanning the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), the College of Design, and the School of Journalism and Communication (SOJC). It includes a diverse array of courses in history, criticism, and aesthetics as well as in media production.
This department supports a computer lab and an equipment room located in Knight Library, which includes student monitors. The department also supports seven full-time faculty, three career instructors from CAS, one career instructor from College of Design, and one career instructor from SOJC. Additionally, there are four staff and up to four office student assistants.
The primary purpose of this position is to support the Business and Academic Operations of the Department of Cinema Studies through administrative projects and coordinating services. This includes supporting the Cinema Studies Administrative Team, which includes the Department Head, Associate Department Head, Student Services Assistant Director, and Business Manager.
This position supports the Business Manager in office operations, student employee supervision, and financial processing; supports the Associate Department Head in coordinating the development and data management of the curriculum; supports the Student Services Assistant Director in academic advising, internship development, and employer relations; and coordinates communication with faculty, inter-unit staff, student majors, Cinema Studies alumni, and industry professionals. Additionally, this position requires an in-depth knowledge of the Department of Cinema Studies and its Business and Academic Operations.
• Three years of office experience which included two years at full performance level and experience generating documents; and
• Lead work responsibility or coordination of office procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a high degree of accuracy
• Strong customer service skills
• Detail oriented with the ability to task organize and balance competing priorities
• Strong organizational and planning skills in a fast-paced environment
• Strong sense of discretion and professionalism
• Three years of experience working with word-processing, databases, and spreadsheets
• Two years of customer service background
• Project management experience
• Supervisory experience
• Excellent proofreading skills
• Event planning experience
• Proficiency using information management systems and applications such as Microsoft Office Suite and Banner® by Ellucian
