Job Summary:

The Comcast Technology Internship Program is an 11-weeksummer programdesigned to identify high-caliber talent to build our organization with the best and the brightest students.

Over the course of the summer, your experience will include:

- Engagement: Working on creative, innovative, and thought-provoking projects within various business units at Comcast during your internship experience

- Exposure: An inside look into the day-to-day operations of an organization at the cutting edge of media and technology

Department and Position Overview:

The dx organization is Comcast's "big data" organization and serves in a shared services capacity for TPX (Technology, Product and Experience). Our mission is to gather, organize, make sense of Comcast data, and make it universally accessible to empower, enable, and transform Comcast into an insight-driven organization. What this means is that we are developing solutions that lower the barrier to entry to data-related activities by promoting automation opportunities, simplifying processes, and developing self-service tooling. The intern will work on a team that serves as a shared service inside of the dx organization, supporting a variety of next generation data capabilities, including: our self-service Portal which serve as a front-end to our data platforms and tools, our Open Egress product exposes data for consumption by end users and end user applications, and the Open Ingest effort in which we provide a platform-agnostic means of ingesting data into the big data platforms. This position is a unique engineering opportunity to work on a variety of data-related functions and gain insight into the bigger picture of how the ecosystem and its use cases come together. Selected candidate will experience a true DevOps software development shop, engage in research activities, and even write/deploy code to production.

Depending on the academic disposition and personal interests of the candidate, this position could workin a variety of different directions (researching new tech, software development, testing and/or automation, troubleshooting, architecture, metrics/KPI capture and reporting, etc.). Core Responsibilities - roles and responsibilities may include (but are not limited to):

- Participation in daily team scrum standup and Agile ceremonies

- Software engineering activities to support internal stitching functions

- User interface design for the dx Portal application, Confluence wiki, and related content

- System and Application Architecture definition, research, analysis, and implementation

- Front-end web application development using leading industry technologies

- Back-end microservices development and API integration using enterprise-scale technologies

- Research and development activities around a production in-memory caching solution

- Research and development activities around a production cross-platform in-memory query/data egress solution

- Research and development activities around a data warehousing and data ingestion methodologies

- Search platform development and optimization

- Implementation of solutions to solve challenges surrounding big data principles, process, and core functions

- Research and development of proof-of-concept solutions

- Troubleshooting and debugging production data-driven applications

Job Specification:

- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree from a United States-based college or university

- Majors: Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, Information Systems, Management Information Systems or a related field

- 3.0 GPA or higher

- Demonstrates solid decision-making skills

- Proven analytical, organizational, and problem-solving ability

- Strong written and verbal communication skills

- Ability to work independently and in group settings

- Strong interest in the technology, telecommunications and media industries

- Current and future authorization to work in the United States of America

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

Please note: many of these are nice-to-haves and we trust that the aptitude to learn will take care of the rest!

- Positive, flexible, collaborative, and a self-starter

- Aptitude to learn (new technologies, process, design paradigms)

- Hands-on experience with and/or familiarity with HTML, CSS, and Javascript

- Some experience or familiarity with web technologies (AngularJS or a JS-based front-end language preferred)

- Some experience or awareness of microservices/APIs

- Some experience with retrieving and manipulating datasets (e.g. database calls, file readers, web service calls)

- Experience with Java/Spring framework a plus

- Experience with CloudFoundry (or similar container-based cloud hosted apps) a plus

- Experience with Presto or a cross-platform in-memory query/data egress solution a plus

- Experience with GridGain, Apache Ignite, or a production in-memory caching solution a plus

- Experience with Hadoop technologies (hive, pig, sqoop, kafka), Teradata, or other big data/data warehousing technologies a plus

- Experience with continuous integration (CI/CD) tooling (e.g. Jenkins, GoCD, TeamCity) a plus

- Experience with automated testing frameworks a plus

- Experience with Confluence or other wiki/content management solutions is a plus
