This is a temporary part-time or full-time position with no benefits. Internship in the Office of Process Improvement are typically 9 months in duration (1560 paid hours), but can last up to 12 months depending on hours worked per week. It is preferred that if the applicant is not currently enrolled in school that they work full time. Appointment may be made as early as January 22, 2019.

The Colorado Department of Transportation is a 1.4 billion dollar a year business dedicated to provide the best multi-modal transportation system for Colorado that most effectively and safely moves people, goods, and information. Capital construction is typically about $600 million a year, or half of the total budget. CDOT, with more than 3,300 employees and scores of public and private partners throughout the state, is responsible for multi-modal engineering, planning, and roadway maintenance for a 9,146 mile highway system including 3,447 bridges which handles over 27 billion vehicle miles of travel. Although the Interstate system accounts for only about 10% (914 miles) of the total mileage in the state system, 40% of all travel takes place on our Interstate highways. In addition, CDOT's Aeronautics Division supports Colorado's general aviation community through distribution of entitlement funds, an aviation grant program, and long-range system planning in partnership with Colorado's general aviation airports. CDOT's Division of Transit and Rail is responsible for the planning, development, finance, operation, and integration of transit and rail services into Colorado's overall transportation system.
Description of Job
The purpose of this part-time / full-time internship is to provide meaningful professional media and marketing experience to collegiate students (or graduates within 3 years of graduation, or Colorado Refugee Services Program participants) with proven academic performance and a strong desire to learn and contribute within the context of the Office of Process Improvement.
The Office of Process Improvement provides the infrastructure, procedures, processes, training, and support which facilitate and promote a culture of continuous improvement at CDOT. The Office of Process Improvement works with other organizations within CDOT to help make our CDOT services, products and operations more effective, efficient and elegant. Our longer-term vision is: "Everyone, Every Day, Improving Every Process and Every Product, To Benefit Every Customer" and to ensure that improvements are adopted and their benefits are realized, we work to 'Ensure that everyone impacted by change is successful with that change". To reach this longer-term vision, CDOT has numerous change initiatives underway.
DUTIES include the following but not limited to:
1) Assisting the Office of Process Improvement and their customers with:
Developing marketing and media campaigns to promote services and products within CDOT, targeted at internal employees
Develop content calendars and standard process for submissions
Monitor analytics and provide reporting
Develop recommendations and approach for improving current websites, social media efforts and overall branding of products and services within CDOT Branding Guidelines.
2) Development of strategy to promote and encourage engagement and replication of CDOT's Lean Everyday Ideas: www.codot.gov/business/process-improvement/lean-everyday-ideas
3) Development of strategy to promote and encourage engagement and collaboration with CDOT's Change Management Program: www.codot.gov/business/process-improvement/change-management
4) Providing a summary presentation at the conclusion of the internship regarding the internship experience;
5) Communicate well verbally and in writing on a variety of platforms and settings.
6) Occasional car travel within the Denver metro region and to other areas throughout the state.
7) Perform other duties as assigned.
This position is currently located on CDOT's Headquarters Campus, 2829 W. Howard Pl., Denver, CO 80204. This location is easily accessible by transit, bike, or foot and provides great connectivity to the RTD transit and city trail network.

The Exceptional Applicant will possess the proven ability or accomplishment in the following:
Completion of 3 years or more in an accredited university in communication, media, or marketing related curriculum or a related discipline, such as: communications, English, marketing, media, advertising, public relations, technical writing, organizational development; strategy management; information technology (IT), or business management.
Knowledge and experience with strategy and execution of previous media and marketing campaigns.
Knowledge and experience with continuous improvement technologies and change management / change leadership theory, technology and practices.
Excellent interpersonal and team-building skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision.
Familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite (including Visio), and Google mail ("Gmail") and related Google applications.
Familiarity with Plone a plus.
