Established in 1961, the Veterinary Technology Program at The State University of New York - Delhi was the first of its type in the United States. Since its inception, it has developed into a dynamic, nationally recognized program, fully accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). The Veterinary Science Department has extensive laboratory facilities, a versatile faculty and staff, and a hands-on curriculum providing on-site experience with companion, laboratory, farm and other animals.
The Veterinary Technology department is seeking to hire a Veterinary Technology Internship Coordinator. The Coordinator will support the academic and professional development of students in the AAS and BS programs.
Under the supervision of the Dean, the Veterinary Technology Internship Coordinator uses independent analysis and judgement to develop, coordinate, and supervise complex and varied administrative tasks in order to provide exemplary applied learning opportunities to the Veterinary Technician AAS and BS programs. The position encompasses two distinct areas of responsibility; preceptorship (AAS) and internship (BS) development and coordination, and assistance with courses associated with these applied learning opportunities.
Duties will include:
Work collaboratively with faculty and the Coordinator of Applied Learning to develop policy and maintain criteria for ensuring the academic quality and integrity of internships
Work directly with SUNY Delhi's Coordinator of Applied Learning using college-wide standards, practices and policies and assist with evaluation and assessment of applied learning in veterinary science
Compiling and maintaining a database of external partners (veterinary practices, research institutions, zoos, government agencies, etc.) for AAS preceptorships and BS internships locations for students to use when looking for sites and for purpose of tracking
Develop and revise Veterinary Science internship policies and procedures
Develop a veterinary science internship manual and promotional material and updates as needed
Identify, develop and monitor current internship sites
Conduct initial site visits (in conjunction with appropriate faculty) to evaluate appropriateness and relevance of internships for students
Ensure site compliance as far as established criteria and SLO's
Assist primary instructor for VETS 198, 183, 203 and 450 courses and will be responsible for collection of data from VETS 183, 203 and 450 for courses for assessment
Assisting students with internship preparation through the development and delivery of concentrated development seminars including resume writing, interviewing techniques, and organizational research, etc.
Assisting with applied learning marketing, including website updates, writing for publications, and social media for the Veterinary Science Department
Assisting with reports pertaining to applied learning to be utilized in assessment of internship effectiveness for AVMA accreditation, program reviews and grant applications
Serve on the Applied Learning Committee and other campus committees as directed by Dean
Associate's degree or higher in a related field
Three or more years of relevant experience
Demonstrated interest and understanding of applied learning
Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
Must have superior interpersonal skills with a demonstrated commitment to cultural diversity
Strong time management and organizational skills
Must exhibit excellent written and oral communication skills with faculty, staff, students, and community partners
Proficiency with windows environment including word processing, knowledge or database programs
Must be a self-starter and possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Demonstrated understanding of program marketing, including ability to use social media, complete basic website updates, etc.
Candidate must possess a valid driver's license and obtain a NY license within 30 days of hire
*Note- The professional obligation for this position requires the employee be available during normal business hours and occasional evenings and weekends.
Current licensed veterinary technician or certified veterinary professional (LVT, CVT, RVT, CVPM, etc.) with ability to be licensed in NY within 6 months of employment
Bachelor's or Master's degree in a related field
Five or more years of relevant experience, including teaching at college level, assessment of student outcomes, and/or academic advisement
Experience working with and administering grants
Start date: January 7, 2019
Work schedule: 12-months, Full-time, Monday - Friday, with occasional evenings and weekends
Reports to: Dean
Budget Title: Staff Assistant-SL2
