Ohio State University Intern - Social Media in Columbus, Ohio

Summary of Duties:

The Social Media Intern will assist with the administration of Ohio State Athletics digital platforms which includes social media accounts and the department website. Reporting to the Social Media Manager, this individual will be a distribution point for department messaging as a direct liaison between the department and the public following Ohio State Athletics. Duties include but are not limited to, assisting the lead manager of day-to-day content planning for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube, Pinterest and Giphy. The Social Media Intern will develop original content such as written messaging, hype videos, photos, GIFs and graphics specifically for Ohio State’s digital platforms. This person is expected to attend a variety of events and provide real-time updates to fan bases. Additionally, the social media intern will be tasked with the development and distribution of written and/or video features on student-athletes, coaches or staff members for This individual may have the opportunity to work with sponsors, and coordinate content with the Department of Athletics and its media rights holder.

This is an entry level, career-based internship and is intended for professional development of an applicant with only 6 to 24 months practical experience. This position is focused on furthering knowledge and skills in the field of digital media. This is a 12-month, full-time paid internship. Internship positions are appointed on an annual basis. This position works in a creative and collaborative team environment where change is embraced, and innovation is encouraged.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Expertise in managing various social media platforms is required, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Pinterest, YouTube, Periscope and Giphy. Candidate must possess ability to keep pace with emerging social media and technological innovations as well as excel in creating original, entertaining, thought-provoking content to expand upon public interaction on all athletics digital media platforms. Strong writing skills are a must and knowledge of desktop publishing and photo/video editing programs, including the ability to edit video and design animated motion graphics such as GIFs is a necessity. The ideal candidate should possess an innovative technical mindset. Strong communication skills, ability to work in a team environment, foster relationships and capability to coordinate strategic communication plans are required. Candidate will need to work a flexible work schedule based on events, including evenings and weekends.

Desired Qualifications:

Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (eg. Photoshop, Premiere, After Effects, InDesign, etc.), HTML, CSS and familiarity with DSLR, Go Pro and 360 cameras.

Target Salary: $11.54 Hourly
