Position Summary

The Shuford Program in Entrepreneurship in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s invites applicants to apply for a unique and exciting tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank. Candidates from the social and natural sciences are encouraged to apply. A terminal degree in one of the preferred disciplines or a related field is required. The candidate will hold a tenure-track appointment in an appropriate academic department within the College of Arts and Sciences.

The Shuford Program in Entrepreneurship is an interdisciplinary program affiliated with the Economics Department. It is the only Entrepreneurship program in the nation housed within a College of Arts and Sciences. This is a new position that will align within the University’s entrepreneurial ecosystem, but the research component will be a new addition to the Shuford Program. The selected candidate will maintain an active program of quality research, teach courses and assume some program responsibilities. Additionally, he/she will interact with local, regional, national, and international startups, businesses and nonprofits. He/she will help develop applied service learning projects and study opportunities for students.

The Shuford Program includes: 1) an undergraduate minor that attracts students with majors/minors such as Economics, City & Regional Planning, Computer Science, Psychology, Public Policy, Media and Journalism, Communication, Art History, Sociology, Business, and Life Sciences as well as other majors across UNC; 2) The Shuford Away Program which encompasses a full semester immersion program that allows students to complete the academic curriculum while concurrently doing an internship and have local start-up and cultural experience in Silicon Valley, NYC or London; and 3) a variety of non-academic programs that enrich the student experience through mentoring, career development and community partnership.

Educational Requirements

Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent degree in appropriate fields.

Qualifications and Experience

Priority will be given to candidates whose research and professional experience lies at the intersection of entrepreneurship and disciplines in the social or natural sciences. Specific Interests may include startups, artistic, commercial science endeavors or social entrepreneurship with a capacity to stimulate interdisciplinary collaborations and teaching. We seek candidates who will be fully committed to our startup based culture, project-based learning curriculum and have a demonstrated ability to collaborate across disciplinary fields. Candidates should have strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students to foster entrepreneurship training and to unleash talent of students with diverse backgrounds, cultures and interests.
