Intern positions at Microsoft Research provide emerging scholars an opportunity to develop their research careers as members of a very active machine learning, statistics, and artificial intelligence community at a world-class research organization. During the internship, interns will work closely with their mentor, Lester Mackey, on a statistical machine learning project of mutual interest.

Microsoft Research New England is comprised of thirty full-time researchers and postdocs working in machine learning, statistics, computational biology, theoretical computer science, algorithmic game theory, economics, social media, cryptography, and mathematics. The lab is highly collaborative and interdisciplinary and is actively engaged with the local academic and tech communities.

Responsibilities

Interns put inquiry and theory into practice. Alongside fellow doctoral candidates and some of the world’s best researchers, interns learn, collaborate, and network for life. Interns not only advance their own careers, but they also contribute to exciting research and development strides. During the 12-week internship, students are paired with mentors and expected to collaborate with other interns and researchers, present findings, and contribute to the vibrant life of the community. Research internships are available in all areas of research, and are offered year-round, though they typically begin in the summer.

Must be currently enrolled in a PhD program in Computer Science, Statistics, or a related STEM field
