Virginia Tech Collegiate Assistant Professor, Turfgrass Science in Blacksburg, Virginia

The School of Plant and Environmental Sciences (School) in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Virginia Tech is inviting applications for a Collegiate Faculty position (9-month AY) at the Assistant Professor rank located in Blacksburg, VA. The Collegiate Assistant Professor is a non-tenure-track position that offers a clear promotion path with increasingly long-term contracts. Collegiate faculty are full members of the School faculty, and are encouraged to participate in scholarly activities such as teaching, mentoring undergraduate research projects, conducting pedagogical research, mentoring students, participating in professional service, etc. The successful candidate will be expected to take a lead role in enhancing curricula, developing an outstanding turf teaching program, and expanding visibility of the School’s Turfgrass Management concentration. The candidate will have opportunities to collaborate with associated turf and plant science faculty, staff, and students in teaching, research and other scholarly endeavors.

The successful candidate will provide instruction in turfgrass management, turfgrass and landscape irrigation and drainage, turf pest management, construction of turfgrass and landscape systems, and student professional development. Specific courses will include but are not limited to Turfgrass Management, Golf and Sports Turf Management, and the turfgrass capstone course. The individual will coordinate the turfgrass internship and undergraduate research programs. The candidate will play a primary advisory role to undergraduate students in Turfgrass Management. In collaboration with other faculty and staff, the candidate will develop new courses and new learning initiatives in the aforementioned areas of turfgrass management, including online delivery methods. The individual will maintain a future-focused instructional approach that includes social media, digital delivery, and distance learning. The successful candidate will develop cooperative relationships with stakeholders in developing experiential learning opportunities for students. Finally, the successful candidate will work with the student services team in the School to develop an active student recruitment program.
