What does our department do?

The Global Technology & Operations Division is where all aspects of Turner’s linear and digital technologies and resources reside.

We are Re-imagining TV , and the result will be the ability to adapt to new business models—whether it’s direct-to-consumer, ad-supported, or transactional—we’ll have the infrastructure to support each. Most importantly, we’ll strengthen our ability to enable new consumer capabilities. Technology Infrastructure Service Cloud Operations Department is responsible for the architecture, operations and management of distributed systems in a hybrid cloud infrastructure for Global Broadcast Technology Services (BEST) Division in GTO. The mission of BEST is to provide the technology services that allow our brands to distribute content on any platform, at any time. BEST is essential to Turner’s ability to deliver flawless live and field production, original licensed content, global access to video content and editing, and continuity of service to our distribution partners.

We work closely with AWS, Information Security and Cloud governance to securely and reliably support the mission of BEST by implementing a site reliability engineering approach that defines the tools, automation and best practices that will enable the brands to move fast with secure, stable, reliable and cost-effective infrastructure.

Our responsibilities include automation of infrastructure, automation of best practices, continuous delivery, infrastructure optimization, self-service infrastructure, implementation of core services that cut across all our service teams.

What will you be doing?

As a Technology Infrastructure Service Cloud Engineer, you will participate in:

  • Automating compliance with cloud security standards
  • Automating self-service infrastructure that complies with cloud operations, governance and security standards
  • Assisting in implementing core software and services that maintain our compliance with cloud security standards
  • Implementing continuous delivery systems that validate security compliance without causing unnecessary friction
  • Assisting in the research of identified security vulnerabilities and coordinate with the appropriate application owners to remediate the vulnerability
  • Learning new technologies to perform assigned tasks
  • Performing other tasks and duties as necessary
  • Tracking and managing work in an agile framework

What do we require from you?

  • Degree/major in the area of Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field
  • Experience with multiple languages and paradigms: Java, Python, Scala, Ruby, Javascript (Python preferred)
  • Full stack knowledge (UI, Application Services, DB, Storage, Network, TCP/IP, UDP, etc.)
  • Experience with Linux
  • Experience in cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred)
  • Experience with Continuous Integration and familiarity with Continuous Delivery
  • Familiar with Docker and container clustering technologies like Kubernetes, Mesos, AWS ECS
  • Familiar with Common Weakness Enumeration (CWE), Open Web App Security Project (OWASP)
  • Familiarity with fundamentals of distributed systems (CAP, Eventual Consistency, Consensus)
  • Advanced analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to multitask
  • Must be diligent, proactive and have high standards for personal work product
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail

Internship dates are May 22, 2018 – August 3, 2018. All interns are expected to work 40 hours per week and paid competitively based on location (relocation is not provided). Participation in the internship program is reserved for students who are currently enrolled or within 6 months post-graduation. Most positions are targeted to upperclassmen and graduate students. Candidates must be qualified and available to work at the time the application is submitted. Full-time employment is not guaranteed at the end of the program.
