The Education Coordinator Internship will assist with the development of a new curriculum-based education program at the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park in Georgetown/Washington, D.C. Internship duties include: outreach to local teachers; coordinating meetings/teleconferences with teachers, park staff and partners; organizing and planning a curriculum development workshop during the summer 2017; organizing supplies and materials; development of outreach and marketing tools including web and social media content; conducting research on Park resources; and helping to coordinate special events. Interns will also learn about the Park and National Park Service, and will have ample opportunities to attend workshops, training courses, and shadow other career fields as professional development opportunities. The position will be stationed in a Park field office (Georgetown/Washington, D.C.) and will report daily to the C&O Canal Georgetown Interpretive Site Supervisor or Program Manager. The position will interact weekly and will be co-supervised by the Park’s Education Program Coordinator regarding projects, programs, training opportunities, etc.

The position is stationed at a Park field office in Georgetown, a historic community of Washington D.C. The site features a watered canal and visitor center with exhibits.

Curriculum development, program delivery techniques, classroom management, learning styles, interpretive personal and non-personal services, visitor services, safety, as well as training in career-specific fields, i.e. historic preservation, resource mgmt

Education opportunities include access to Park and Regional National Park Service Training, Fish and Wildlife Training Courses, online education-related webinars, shadow opportunities. Recreational opportunities include hiking, biking, fishing, kayaking.
