Support curriculum based education programs for K-12 students visiting the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park. Major duties include: scheduling school visits, assisting with and/or delivering education programs, assisting with and/or leading (with supervision) education related projects, website/social media outreach, assisting with teacher workshops and training. Working environment includes office and field. Outdoor (field) work can take place in a variety of weather conditions and includes walking/hiking several miles a day. Curriculum programs are interdiscplinary, content includes sciences, math, social studies and environmental education. Collaboration with a variety of demographics is an important function of this position. In addition to working with elementary and secondary students, the intern will work closely with other college students or recent graduates, a variety of park ranger staff, and a cadre of local retired teachers and professionals. If you enjoy working with youth, teaching or instructing, problem-solving and being resourceful, spending time outdoors in the spring and fall, collaborating with others, and contributing to a team, this position might be a great fit for you!

Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park at Hagerstown, Maryland.

Training includes: NPS Interpretation, Facilitated Dialogue/ACE, Safey, Digital Media, Curriculum.

Hiking, biking, fishing, kayaking, camping, rock climbing, etc. The surrounding area and georgraphy also lend itself to outdoor recreation and tourism. Ample education opportunities and professional development experiences.

Our park is 184.5 miles long, and although the intern will have access to driving a park vehicle while on duty, the public transportation is limited in the general area and could present a challenge to the intern in commuting from housing to work, etc.
